Neonatal Varicella
-
Babies whose mothers develop varicella 7 days
or fewer before delivery, or up to 2 days after delivery are at high
risk of severe varicella and should be given ZIG at birth.
-
Babies whose mothers develop varicella 2-30
days after delivery should be given ZIG as soon as possible.
-
Maternal varicella is not a contraindication
to breast feeding.
-
If a baby's siblings have chickenpox, the
baby should be ZIG if the mother is non-immune, but the baby does not
need to be separated from mother or siblings
