Mr Chairman, ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you for the invitation to speak at this  Paediatric Update.

My talk is entitled Prophylactic use of surfactant in the bush

However it is not my  intention to concentrate on just the prophylactic use of surfactant since even in level 3 units in the state this is not practiced and is not practical for the bush.

I shall initially speak about the timing of surfactant administration, the evidence on which these practices are based, followed by the referral patterns from the regional centres. Then I shall be presenting the NETS experience  in surfactant administration and finally how  the regional paediatricians and NETS could work together to improve outcomes for these patients who are born prematurely in the bush.

I would then hope there is some time for discussion at the end
