Doctors working at NETS are given a two day class-room orientation prior to undertaking any retrieval. For the first few retrievals, a NETS Consultant or Clinical Fellow accompanies new doctors. During a 3 month term, a doctor can expect to complete 45 medical retrievals; approximately half of newborn infants and half of older infants and children. Doctors working a 6 month rotation can expect to complete 100 retrievals. The 6 month term is preferred.
Nurses hired by NETS undergo a 6 week training period during which they are 'buddied". Training includes class-room training, equipment orientation, clinical retrieval skills, aviation medicine, clinical coordination and clinical call conferencing.
There is a training program for all doctors working with NETS. An outline of the weekly program is shown.
