Referrals - How to use NETS
Clinicians wishing to use NETS should select from the options available via the NETS Line.
After selecting the option required, please introduce yourself to the coordinator stating your full name, where you are calling from and specify that you wish to discuss a retreival with NETS. Don't take too much time to outline the clinical problem since the coordinator will generally not have an opportunity to relay what you say to the NETS Consultant. You'll find yourself repeating yourself.
The NETS Coordinator will connect you with a NETS' consultant in a conference call which includes the duty NETS teams. Others, such as consultants in likely destination hospital neonatal ICU, paediatric ED or paediatric ICU may join the call. Other sub-specialist experts may be added.
The NETS' consultant will act as 'chairman' and introduce new participants to you in turn. You may already know someone who joins a NETS' conference call but please wait for the formal introduction; otherwise you may start having a one-to-one conversation without realising there are others on the line.
When it comes to telling the story, we recommend the 'LISBAR' framework for communication.
